SYRACUSE — A dramatic playoff run by Utica's Notre Dame Jugglers reached its conclusion Tuesday with a loss in Section III's Class C championship game. The Jugglers led in the sixth inning and had the tying run on base to start the seventh at Onondaga Community College but were beaten 7-6 by Syracuse's Bishop Grimes Cobras in an all-parochial school final.

Solvay defeated Holland Patent 12-3 in the Section III Class B baseball championship. Solvay jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. Dominick Cole drove in all three runs for Holland Patent. Solvay's Sawyer Stewart pitched a complete game, striking out seven. Solvay advances to the regional semifinals against Section IX Chester.

SYRACUSE — New Hartford's first two batters singled to start Section III's Class A baseball championship game Monday night. Everything pretty much went downhill from there for the Spartans. Luke VanMarter struck out the next batter then ended the first inning with a double play grounder as he combined with Griffon Filighera to shut the Spartans out on two more hits in a 13-0 victory for the Jamesville-DeWitt Red Rams, who earned a third consecutive title at Onondaga Community College.

Hamilton defeated McGraw 2-1 in the Section III Class D softball championship. The game-winning run was scored in the bottom of the seventh inning on an error and a pop fly. Hamilton pitcher Ellie Freeth pitched a two-hitter and drove in the winning run. The team dedicated their win to teammate Isadora Catania, who passed away earlier in the week.

A pit bull named Rhett was found in the town of Kirkland, extremely emaciated, weak, and unable to get up on his own. A Clark Mills woman was arrested and charged following an animal cruelty investigation, according to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office. On May 28, Lindsay Meelan, 36, of Clark Mills was charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, torture/injure/not feed animals, and a violation of dog control procedures.
