    Break and EnterOn April 20th, 2025, at approximately 2:38 a.m., the Kawartha Lakes Police Service responded to a burglary alarm at a King St convenience store and found that a suspect had gained entry into the business by smashing through the front entrance glass door. While inside, the suspect stole a large quantity of cigarettes before fleeing the scene. An extensive area search was unable to locate the suspect. The Criminal Investigations Branch is continuing to investigate the incident.

    Officers from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a serious collision on Highway 401. On April 20, 2025, just before 7:00 p.m., officers responded to a collision on Highway 401, near Newtonville Road, in the Municipality of Port Hope. Two vehicles were involved. One driver was air-lifted to Toronto-area trauma centre with life-threatening injuries.

Cobourg’s Ethan Miedema and the Frontenacs staved off elimination Sunday night in Kingston with a 3-2 overtime win over the Colts and Port Hope’s Dalyn Wakely. The home team has won each of the first six games as Barrie took a 2-0 series lead before Kingston answered back with two straight victories in their arena.

    A downtown store owner says having security guards at his business periodically is for the protection of his staff after several break-ins and thefts. Lucas Cleveland who owns the Market and Smor located at 39 King Street East in Cobourg spoke to Today’s Northumberland on April 9, 2025 stating over the last seven months due to the break-ins and thefts, the loss has been approximately $30,000. “More importantly as an employer, I employee a lot of women as well as a lot of 17, 18 and 19-year-olds.

    The Town of Cobourg would like to advise residents of an upcoming demolition to the existing structure located at 414 King Street West. The Town of Cobourg purchased the subject property at Council’s direction in order to prepare for the expansion of the adjacent wastewater treatment plant (WPCP#1) and to construct an adequate industrial standard driveway to WPCP#1. WPCP#1 is located at 420 King Street West on a small parcel of land with little to no room for expansion.
