WSKG-FM(Vestal, NY)
WSKG-FM, broadcasting at 89.3 MHz, is an NPR affiliate located in Binghamton, New York. It has a powerful signal with an effective radiated power of 11.5 kW. To ensure better coverage in the hilly areas, its signal is also broadcasted on several other frequencies across South Central New York State. The station first went on air in October 1975 and is operated by the WSKG Public Telecommunications Council, a non-profit organization affiliated with the State University of New York Board of Regents and the New York State Department of Education. Historically, WSKG-FM's programming included a mix of classical music, NPR talk shows, and news, along with jazz on Friday nights after All Things Considered, and folk music on Saturday evenings following A Prairie Home Companion. However, on February 3, 2019, the station revamped its schedule, transitioning to a format that focuses entirely on NPR talk and news programming. In addition to WSKG-FM, the WSKG Public Telecommunications Council also runs WSKG-TV and WSQX-FM.

On a recent Wednesday evening at Binghamton University, Lois Grady-Wesbecher carefully laid out pieces of brightly patterned yellow and orange fabric on a conference table, each one cut into the shape of a flame. Working with her friend, Karen Jennings-Laskowski, she aimed to create a panel of a quilt that depicted recent wildfires — and their tolls. “This one is Paradise, which was California in 2018, 86 people died,” said Grady-Wesbecher, pointing to one fabric flame.
