Earlier this week, the Chicago area saw two 80 degree days. Does that mean it's time to put away those heavy winter coats once and for all? "April is a kind of funny time of year," Jeanes said. "We have warm days and wintery days."The average last snowfall for the season in Chicago occurs on April 20, Jeanes said. But that day is also when the city typically sees its first 80-degree day, Jeanes said.

A day after some parts of the Chicago area saw severe weather with hail, lightning, heavy rain and tornado watches, Wednesday started out mild and dry for most areas, though the chance for more showers and storms could develop in the morning and afternoon. According to the NBC 5 Storm Team, scattered showers to the north and west early Wednesday morning had moved into some parts of DeKalb county.

A rainy, dreary day is in store for the Chicago area Friday, with clouds, fog and on-and-off rain showers expected from morning through night. "Expect rain at any time today," NBC 5 Meteorologist Alicia Roman said. "Take your umbrella early, and keep it with you the rest of the day."Early Friday, parts to the south saw light showers moving in, Roman said. By afternoon, rain was expected to lift northward, with more moderate, widespread rain continuing into the evening and overnight.
