The jury raised more than one question on the most serious counts facing the sitting state senator who is on trial for bribery. Federal prosecutors accuse Jones of making false statements to the FBI as well as using emails in aid of racketeering.

A mountain of flowers from Easter Sunday was being made bigger by people stopping by to bring flowers in memory of the pontiff. CHICAGO – On Saturday, over three-dozen members of the public participated in the second Community Training Observation Day. Participants got to sample classroom instruction and scenario-based training officers receive as part of a mandatory 40 hours of annual in-service training. “This is not an easy job. I’ve said this before, this is very difficult work. At any given second, an officer can find himself/herself in a volatile situation,” Chicago Police Department Supt. Larry Snelling said.

CHICAGO (WGN) — Three people were hospitalized after an argument led to a shooting in the front yard of a home on the city’s West Side late Friday night. Chicago police say just after 11:30 p.m., officers were called to the scene of a shooting with three reported victims in the 5000 block of West West End Avenue, in Austin. According to police, a preliminary investigation indicates that an altercation broke out between a group of people in the front yard of a home in the area.

CHICAGO (WGN) — Illinois State Senator Emil Jones III, who faces federal bribery and racketeering charges, took the stand in his defense Wednesday. It’s the second consecutive day that Jones took the stand in an effort to clear his name. At the center of the bribery trial are FBI recordings accusing the sitting state senator of making false statements to the federal agency, as well as the use of email in aid of racketeering.
