Trial for Lauren Heike murder suspect moved to 2027

PHOENIX — The trial for the man accused of killing Lauren Heike has been moved to Jan. 4, 2027. Zion Teasley, 24, is facing a first-degree murder charge for allegedly stabbing Heike to death on a hiking trail near Libby Street and 66th Way on April 29, 2023. Since his arrest for the murder of Heike, Teasley has been charged with aggravated assault with a knife and first-degree burglary in the area of 43rd Avenue and Thunderbird Road in Phoenix in connection with incidents in 2020.

AVONDALE, Ariz. — Two people were shot and two Avondale schools were placed on lockdown Tuesday afternoon. Officers were called to the area of 135 and Pinchot avenues around 12:36 p.m. for reports of a shooting, according to the Avondale Police Department. When officers arrived, they were told that an assault had taken place between several people. A nearby hospital later reported two people suffering from gunshot wounds had arrived from the assault location.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — Smoke may be visible from areas in Northern Arizona this week as forest officials conduct prescribed burns ahead of fire season. The first burn on Monday targeted 503 acres seven miles east of Flagstaff. The goal was to reduce fuel in the area to mitigate the threat of a catastrophic wildfire. Tuesday, crews were burning 840 acres a mile and a half north of Bellemont. Smoke is expected to be visible from U.S. Highway 180 in and around the Fort Valley.
