Voters chose two new members for the Rochester city school board on Tuesday. And returned current board President Camille Simmons for a second term. Simmons was the top vote-getter, followed by challengers Kareem McCullough and Heather Feinman, according to unofficial election results. McCullough learned he won a seat on the school board when a reporter called shortly after 10:30 p.m., seeking comment.

An impassioned and victorious Mayor Malik Evans spoke to supporters Tuesday night at the Strathallan hotel ballroom after clinching the Democratic primary. "Regardless of if you are a believer or non-believer," Evans said, "I want you to remember Galatians 6:9, where He said, 'And let us not be weary in well doing, for in due season, we shall reap if we faint not. Mayor Malik Evans has spent more than $500,000 in his bid for re-election this year, according to the campaign’s latest financial filings. That’s more than three times what he had spent at this point getting elected four years ago. His two opponents, City Council member Mary Lupien and IT executive Shashi Sinha, have combined spending of just more than $200,000. Early voting began Saturday, and turnout thus far is tracking behind what it was in 2021.

A throng a protestors lined the streets surrounding Brighton’s Twelve Corners on Saturday, waiving American flags and signs of protest in opposition to President Donald’s Trump’s policies. Some came dressed as the Statue of Liberty. They chanted and cheered in unison with the honking of passing motorists. The scene was repeated from Irondequoit to Henrietta, and Fairport to Canandaigua. And in towns and cities across New York and the nation.
