FITCHBURG, Wis. (WKOW) - Fitchburg's Police and Fire Commission wants Scott Sarver to be the city's next fire chief and emergency management director. The committee unanimously approved an offer for Sarver during its meeting Wednesday night. Sarver was one of three finalists for the job, along with Jesse Coulson and Michael Wright. In 2024, Sarver was a finalist for the fire chief job in Janesville.

MADSON (WKOW) -- Multiple international students who attend Madison College have lost their student status and visas. A spokesperson for the college told 27 News that, as of April 15, the federal government had terminated Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) records for three international students. Madison College said it did not play a role in those terminations and the government did not tell the college about the reasons behind the decisions.

MADISON (WKOW) - Madison's longtime clerk, Maribeth Witzel-Behl, resigned from her position, the city announced Monday. She had been on leave as the city investigated how 193 absentee ballots weren't counted in the November 2024 election. City Attorney Michael Haas has been serving as acting clerk, and he will continue in that role while the city conducts a nationwide search for a permanent replacement.
