FITCHBURG, Wis. (WKOW) - Fitchburg's Police and Fire Commission wants Scott Sarver to be the city's next fire chief and emergency management director. The committee unanimously approved an offer for Sarver during its meeting Wednesday night. Sarver was one of three finalists for the job, along with Jesse Coulson and Michael Wright. In 2024, Sarver was a finalist for the fire chief job in Janesville.

MADSON (WKOW) -- Multiple international students who attend Madison College have lost their student status and visas. A spokesperson for the college told 27 News that, as of April 15, the federal government had terminated Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) records for three international students. Madison College said it did not play a role in those terminations and the government did not tell the college about the reasons behind the decisions.

She had been on leave as the city investigated how 193 absentee ballots weren't counted in the November 2024 election. The university said this affects six current students and seven alumni who are on employment extensions. According to an update UW-Madison posted Monday afternoon, the government terminated those people's Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) records.

DANE COUNTY, Wis. (WKOW) - Voters in Cottage Grove and Oregon saw municipal funding referendums on their ballot for the Spring General Election. In both communities, voters rejected those measures. Village of Cottage GroveThe village asked voters to approve a $1.3 million referendum to pay for building a new library, but they said no by a 32-point margin. The village said that means it will not purchase land for the building and will not move forward with construction plans.
