These individuals are getting help with housing and getting jobs to build a safe life. Carlie Sturgeon is the YWCA Senior Director of Immigrant and Refugee Services. She oversees helping refugees and immigrants of all ages. She’s been in this role for almost seven years. Sturgeon said she’s experiencing unprecedented times.

    PHOENIX — It could be months before a condo off Interstate 17 and Greenway Road can be restored. Inside, there is debris from hoarding, rodents, pests and more than a dozen dogs. The woman living in the condo, 62-year-old Janet Schwarz has been charged with 16 misdemeanor counts of Animal Cruelty. Neighbors living in that community have been sounding the alarm for years. “It had become a concern when our neighbors had rats coming out of the garage and things like that," Veronica Austin said.

    GILBERT, AZ — On Tuesday, Gilbert police responded to multiple calls on a welfare check for an elderly woman near Ray and Recker roads. Police say witnesses saw Linda Smith attempting to cross Ray Road, where there was no crosswalk and was seen walking along the median. On her drive home, Linda Gomez spotted Smith and pulled over to help. "Are you okay? And she's like, "I'm lost!" said Gomez.
