SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) — A potential economic development project as well as the status of Shreveport’s water system, fire stations, police station and police substations will be discussed Tuesday (April 8). The topics will be taken up at 1:30 p.m. that day by the City Council’s Planning & Infrastructure/GIS Committee, which last met Feb. 25. The meeting, which is open to the public, will be held in the Government Chamber on the first floor of Government Plaza, 505 Travis St. in Shreveport.

ARCADIA, La. (KSLA) — A train struck a tractor-trailer rig that was stalled or otherwise stuck on the tracks in downtown Arcadia late Thursday (April 3) morning. And Arcadia police captured video of it happening. The train can be heard blasting its horn moments before the collision.

LAKE BISTINEAU, La. (KSLA) — The search will resume at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday (Aug. 21) for the body of a Bienville Parish man who drowned near the Lake Bistineau dam in Bossier Parish, the Bossier Sheriff’s Office reports. He has been identified by family members as 55-year-old Kenneth Gibson, of Ringgold. Gibson and his nephew were fishing near the dam about 1 p.m. Tuesday (Aug. 20) when they decided to try to cross a rock shelf that had swift water flowing over it, Sheriff Julian Whittington said.

The shooting occurred in a stadium parking lot behind the school during a school spirit night Monday (Aug. 19), authorities said. The sheriff’s office says a fight broke out between Anthony Hughes, 43, and a group of juveniles.

CADDO PARISH, La. (KSLA) — Fire officials are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the recurrence of a house fire in Caddo Parish. The single-family home in the 8800 block of Denny Drive was fully involved in flames when firefighers from Caddo Fire District 4 arrived about 2:15 a.m. Sunday (Aug. 18). “This property had previously experienced a fire last month,” CFD 4 spokesman John Phelan said. Crews managed to bring the blaze under control within 15 minutes of their arrival.

SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) — A Shreveport man died after apparently being struck by a vehicle while walking along a busy highway in north-central Shreveport early Thursday morning (Aug. 15), authorities report. The Caddo coroner’s office has identified him at 31-year-old Melvin Linear Jr.He was discovered by Shreveport police just after 2:20 a.m. when officers responded to a passerby’s report of a man down in the highway at North Hearne and Hilry Huckaby III avenues, the coroner’s office reports.

Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson is on social media indicating he’s ready to do Humor & Harmony Weekend in Shreveport again in 2025. One thing though, he says in a Facebook post made at lunchtime Sunday, “We are going to need more hotels and pools down here next year... (KSLA) — The Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) has confirmed two cases of West Nile Virus in Northwest Louisiana. There was one each in Bossier and Caddo parishes, according to the latest surveillance report. Both cases were the neuroinvasive type. “This is really the month for it. We are starting to see an increase” in West Nile cases, LDH spokesman Kevin Litten said. While still rare, West Nile Virus is the most common disease the can be contracted from a mosquito bite.
