Meeker County authorities seeks tips about Dassel crime spree

DASSEL — The Meeker County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a rash of break-ins and property damage in Dassel over the weekend. According to the Sheriff’s Office, dispatchers from Saturday to Monday received 12 calls regarding damage to property, break-ins, and a report of suspicious people walking in town. A burglary alarm also went off, related to the reports of property damage.

PAYNESVILLE — Three people were transported to the hospital Sunday evening after a two-vehicle crash in Stearns County. According to a news release from the Stearns County Sheriff's Office, initial investigation showed that a 2008 Dodge Avenger, driven by John Weber, 55, of Hawick, was driving southbound on County Road 16 and had failed to stop at a posted stop sign when it ran into an eastbound Dodge Durango SUV at the intersection with County Road 130 north of Paynesville.

LED signs to be installed along southwest Minnesota highways

WILLMAR — The Minnesota Department of Transportation will be installing LED signs along curves on highways in Kandiyohi, Lac qui Parle, Lincoln, Lyon, Pipestone, Redwood, Renville and Yellow Medicine counties beginning April 14. The LED chevron signs are being installed to provide enhanced safety for motorists. The signs have simple LED lights powered by a solar panel.

WILLMAR — Three drivers each suffered non-life-threatening injuries in a four-vehicle crash Wednesday morning on Minnesota Highway 23 between Priam and Willmar. All three of the injured drivers were transported to CentraCare — Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar for treatment.

WILLMAR — The man charged with the murder of a New London man in an apparent attempted carjacking last autumn on a highway outside Willmar has been deemed competent to continue with criminal proceedings. Ameer Musa Matariyeh, 26, of Minneapolis, and his lawyer William Walker appeared virtually Tuesday in Kandiyohi County District Court along with First Assistant Kandiyohi County Attorney Kristen Pierce, to provide an update on the pending criminal case to Judge Stephen Wentzell.
