BEMIDJI – A multi-year collaboration between local nonprofits Project for Change and Peacemaker Resources has resulted in the continued observation of the Juneteenth holiday, with this year’s event hosted on Thursday at Diamond Point Park. Featuring games, information booths, food, face-painting, music and general goodwill, the event aimed to serve as a means of education as well as celebration.

CASS LAKE – The Leech Lake Powwow Grounds welcomed all for a celebration of the area’s youngest commodity as part of Leech Lake Nation’s seventh annual Welcome Babies celebration on Wednesday. Supported by Leech Lake’s Family Spirit Program, Manidoo Ningadoodem, the event aims to recognize all of those born within the past year regardless of tribal affiliation or lack thereof.

BEMIDJI — As it inches closer to the start of the 2026 fiscal year, the Bemidji Area Schools Board of Education unanimously approved the district’s preliminary 2025-2026 operating budget at its regular meeting on Monday. School boards are required to approve their budgets prior to July 1, or before the start of the upcoming fiscal year, with the idea that budgeting will change throughout the school year.
