Our counting down to kickoff 2025 is at Day #69, as in… the number of Mississippi State games won by Dan Mullen in his nine (almost) complete seasons as head coach. From kickoff in 2009 through the 2017 Egg Bowl, the first-time head coach's teams posted a 69-46 overall record. This is the second-most career wins by a Bulldog coach, trailing only Jackie Sherrill's 75 victories from 1991-2003. Yes, Sherrill had four more years on the job.

Don't look now. But with all our attention rightly turned to the continuing work Brian O'Connor and staff are doing in putting a roster together for the 2026 season, there is another factor looming. And it's not all that far away now, either. Major League Baseball will hold its annual summer draft in another three weeks. Milewski is coming to Mississippi State from Seton Hall where he has played the past two seasons.

Our team didn't make it to Omaha, again. Which is something Brian O'Connor has been hired to fix and fast, but that is not our topic for today. Rather, it about the fact that even when Mississippi State is missing out we still watch the College World Series play out. It's just what Mississippi State baseball fans do, especially we who've experienced the most purely enjoyable event on the college sports calendar.
