Now an impressive season later the big forward wants to make a move. Murphy has announced intention to enter the NCAA's transfer process and find another program to play his senior season for. The spring transfer window opened up on March 24 and allows thirty dates for senior college players to apply. Or, withdraw. Which is what Murphy did a year ago.

Jeff Lebby already knew this spring would see a serious upgrade in a critical practice aspect. Still, he has been impressed and even a little surprised with new Mississippi State reality. "We've been live every day at some point in time that we've put pads on," Lebby noted. "That's been good."Good? Judging by the coach's words and expressions, this is great stuff. It was a fine showing a week ago at Memphis. The trick for Ryan McPherson was repeating on another field against another foe. Oh, and on the road again, too. So when Mississippi State's freshman reliever did turn said trick tonight at UAB? "It was another good week for Ryan," Coach Chris Lemonis said. Another winning mid-week, too. Taking over for the third inning McPherson made it count, working four full frames and picking up the decision as Mississippi State beat the Blazers 8-3.

This is the short stretch of the college baseball schedule where updating everyone's ratings power index, or RPI, is fascinating. Fun, even. Because with everyone now into conference competition for at least two weeks and in some cases four weeks, there are still some pretty radical swings in RPI scores. Call it coming back to reality in most cases, because when the NCAA put out those later March standings there were obvious outliers.
