ROCHESTER — Around 80 people, including about 20 religious leaders, demonstrated outside of Republican U.S. Rep. Brad Finstad's Rochester office on Tuesday, May 27 in response to his vote to pass a major budget bill that includes changes to Medicaid and SNAP food assistance. "The vote passed in the House by one vote. That was Brad Finstad's vote," said state Sen. Liz Boldon, DFL-Rochester, who attended the demonstration.

LANESBORO, Minn. — As Minnesotans head outdoors for summer fun, tick bite prevention is key. This is something the staff of Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center, located outside Lanesboro, know well. "As soon as we know ticks are out and about, it's on the forefront of our mind," said Colleen Foehrenbacher, executive director of Eagle Bluff. Ticks are small arachnids that feed on the blood of animals as nymphs (the size of a poppy seed) and as adults (sesame seed to apple seed-sized).

PAUL — The National Institutes of Health has canceled two more Mayo Clinic research grants, along with multiple University of Minnesota grants, according to data released by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. There are now three Mayo Clinic research grants that have been terminated under the Trump administration, as reported by HHS through the Tracking Accountability in Government Grants System, or TAGGS.

ROCHESTER — As Republicans in Congress aim to pass President Donald Trump’s 1,000-plus-page legislative package by Memorial Day, Minnesotans are raising the alarm over proposed cuts to SNAP and Medicaid. “My family relies on MNsure and advanced premium tax credits,” which are set to expire at the end of this year unless Congress intervenes, “to make our health insurance more affordable,” said Jennifer Jacquot-DeVries of Brainerd, executive director of the Crossing Arts Alliance.

The world’s light has dimmed with the loss of one of its kindest, brightest souls. Jane Frances Pollack, beloved daughter, sister, auntie, friend, and doting cat-mom, died on May 12, 2025, due to a brain aneurysm. Jane was born on March 1, 1965. She grew up in Rochester, Minnesota. She attended St. Francis of Assisi School, Lourdes High School for ninth grade, and graduated from John Marshall High School in 1983.
