PHOENIX — If the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, the journey to save a desert begins with a single cactus. And this Arizona woman is on a mission to do what she can to preserve the Sonoran Desert landscape, one cactus at a time. “A desert doesn’t have to take a thousand years to regenerate. We’re putting things out there to help it regenerate now,” said Jenny Vitale. Vitale is an engineer by trade, but she also spends her time volunteering to rescue cacti.

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. — More than a month has passed since the Legado Luxury Apartments in Prescott Valley went up in flames. The apartments were under construction when the fire was started in the early morning of April 1, 2024. Investigators say it was set on purpose. “When I saw that glow I knew this was not going to be good,” recalled Brad Fain, who is developing the Legado property.

TEMPE, Ariz. — This April marks 20 years since Pat Tillman was killed in Afghanistan. On April 13, tens of thousands of people in Tempe honored his mission of doing good during the 20th annual Pat’s Run. Tillman died on April 22, 2004, at the age of 27, after he gave up his professional football career to join the Army after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. He was a friend, a family man, a Sun Devil, Arizona Cardinal and he still is a hero to many.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Spring Training is the perfect time for a fresh start in a new season. Hall of Fame pitcher Randy Johnson is sharing his new focus. Johnson is debuting a photography exhibit titled Storytelling with Photographs on Friday at the Center Space gallery inside the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts. “Baseball was a good portion of my life, but now I’m doing something that’s not baseball related that I have just as much of a passion for,” said Johnson.
