If you’ve ever been in Lincoln Park, waiting near Alcott Elementary School or cutting through a residential side street going from The Wiener’s Circle to Kingston Mines, maybe you’ve noticed some art banners on a fence. If you look a little closer, you’ll see an entryway that looks less residential than its neighbors. You’re right: It’s not someone’s house. It’s Wrightwood 659, a space for art at 659 W. Wrightwood Ave., on the south side of the street between Orchard and Clark streets.

In a city of busy chefs, Joe Flamm is among the busiest. The season 15 winner of Top Chef is the culinary director of Day Off Group, running the kitchens of the buzzing Rose Mary and BLVD Steakhouse in the West Loop. And he has a third restaurant on the way just a few blocks from the other two, tentatively timed to open later this year. It’s called Il Carciofo, after the Italian word for artichoke.

Sept. 13-Dec. 3When Chicago's open run of "Hamilton" shuttered in early 2020 after three-and-a-half years, the producers said it could have gone on even longer, which is really saying something for a production that reportedly grossed $400 million. The purpose of closing was both to relax geographical exclusivity so the touring productions could hit other Midwestern cities and to keep the juice in a future touring visit to Chicago.

Amazingly for some who remember the old railyard east of Michigan Avenue like it was yesterday, the Harris Theater for Music & Dance celebrates its 20th birthday this season. In some ways, the venue at the north end of Millennium Park feels like it's still new; in others, it's hard to imagine there was a time when Chicago didn't have it. Some of the newness comes from the churn of companies using the Harris stage.
