    WEST CALDWELL, NJ – Caldwell advanced in the semifinal round of the Essex County boys lacrosse tournament with a 16-6 victory over Montclair-Kimberley Academy on Wednesday. Sean Murtagh and Jeremy Rodriguez scored five goals apiece and Murtagh added two assists for Caldwell (6-7), which led, 10-4, at halftime. The Chiefs dominated the faceoff circle, with Milo Ruggiero winning 21 of 25 draws and Rodriguez going 3-for-3 there.

    MONTVILLE, NJ – West Essex rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh for a 4-3 baseball victory over Columbia in the quarterfinal round of the Greater Newark Tournament on Wednesday night. West Essex (10-4), the third seed, trailed, 3-1, going to the bottom of the sixth, scored one run that inning and then two more in the home half of the seventh. The game was played at Montville High School, which has a turf surface, because West Essex' field was unplayable after recent rains.
