SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The South Dakota Department of Health (DOH) says a second case of measles has been detected in the state in 2025, this one also in West River. The DOH sent the announcement out at 4:48 p.m. on Friday, informing the public that there was potential of a measles exposure at two locations in Pennington County.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The state prison task force recently endorsed a proposal to build the new state prison at one of two sites or at existing currently operating Department of Corrections locations. The plan for the prison(s) has not been narrowed down to two sites; it includes the Worthing area, the Mitchell area, and existing DOC facilities. There are two sites lying outside the communities of Mitchell and Worthing that would be new sites for the DOC to operate.

Scott VanderWal, President of the South Dakota Farm Bureau, told KELOLAND News Thursday that the crops in most of the state are now in pretty good shape. Planting conditions, he noted, were nearly ideal.

(KELO) — South Dakota’s first case of the measles in 2025 was reported in Meade County on Monday, with the infected individual having visited public locations in Sturgis and Rapid City on May 28 and 29. In two months, the city of Sturgis will welcome around half a million visitors for the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
