SALTILLO, Miss. (WTVA) - Work is underway to fix the sewer system at a popular sportsplex in Saltillo. Mayor Copey Grantham said aldermen approved funding for the work at WK Webb Sportsplex on Monday. The city received numerous complaints about foul smells and various other issues. It recently experienced a system failure. The sportsplex often hosts large tournaments, and the 25-year-old pipes cannot keep up.

TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - Tupelo police arrested a man who allegedly took photos and videos of unknowing women in a grocery store bathroom. Police arrested Jario Ramirez on Monday and charged him with secretly filming others for lewd purposes. The incident happened at the Kroger on West Main Street. "The safety of our customers and associates is a top priority," according to a Kroger statement.

TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - Guntown banned the recreational sale of nitrous oxide on Tuesday evening, May 6. Medical professionals like dentists often use the gas, commonly known as "laughing gas" to sedate patients. However, the town's ban does not apply to those situations. It applies to the sale of the gas in stores like vape shops. Users inhale the gas to receive the same type of high that patients receive while undergoing a root canal.

OXFORD, Miss. (WTVA)- The Oxford Police Department will enforce a clear bag policy next year. It will be similar to clear bag policies at sporting and entertainment venues. All purses and bags must be clear to allow security to see what's inside. Oxford Police Chief Jeff McCutchen said the policy won't be enforced until next year's festival, but he would like festival-goers to get used to the changes this weekend.

NEW ALBANY, Miss. (WTVA) - A municipal court clerk and her boyfriend face child abuse charges in Union County. Law enforcement arrested Elizabeth McGinty and David Carruth on Tuesday, April 1. Union County Sheriff Jimmy Edwards said the child's grandparents found signs of physical abuse on the child's body. This led to the couple's arrest; however, the sheriff did not announce any more details about the alleged crime. Investigators will present the case to an upcoming grand jury.
