PHOENIX — St. Vincent de Paul has a new goal for its Housing 2025 initiative, working to prevent homelessness for 15,840 people in 2025. As part of that initiative, the nonprofit says they are focusing on keeping people from being evicted. Data from the Common Sense Institute shows Arizona spends up to $47,000 per person experiencing homelessness annually on shelter, food and other services.

PHOENIX — Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs has signed a bill into law restricting your child's access to their cellphone in the classroom. Under HB2484, which received bipartisan support, schools must enforce common-sense policies around student access to the internet, restrict access to social media platforms, and limit cellphone use during the school day. Exceptions are provided for emergencies, medical conditions, and teacher-directed academic use.

The nonprofit "Sounds Academy" is celebrating 10 years in the Valley, making sure a child’s zip code does not determine their access to music education. ABC15 first covered the sights and sounds of the non-profit in December of 2023, profiling students like Callie and Abraham. “We didn’t have the money to play an instrument, but SOUNDS Academy helped me,” Abraham said. Last year, Maricopa County saw a record number of eviction cases. To get a closer look at the process, ABC15 followed along as Maricopa County Constable Mahogany Kennedy was tasked with the difficult job of evicting tenants. The day started as Kennedy drove to the first home in south Phoenix. "I have about eight evictions scheduled today, yesterday I had 12," she said. When she arrived, she approached the door but quickly found the house was empty.

That's up $50,000 compared to 2020, where data shows the average income needed was roughly $71,000. Bankrate has some tips to help you buy, even if your salary does not meet that average salary. They recommend using their online calculator where you can enter your income and debts to see how much you can actually afford and what your payments would look like.
