    PRESCOTT, Ariz. — The LA fires still fresh on their minds, homeowners in one northern Arizona pine community are scrambling to remove fire fuel from their properties and to keep their home insurance amid rising costs. Fire Risk Manager Conrad Jackson says about 12% of homeowners in the Prescott area have decided to go without insurance altogether because they’ve paid off their home and are no longer required to be insured. “Some of them are choosing to roll the dice,” Jackson said.

    PHOENIX — The Arizona Corporation Commission Utilities Division has opened an inquiry into the “events that led up to the termination of service” for an 82-year-old woman who died in her home during extreme heat last May. Kate Korman’s body was found six days after APS shut off her power. Korman was three months behind on her energy bill, and the power company said it had made multiple attempts to reach her before disconnecting her electricity.
