Peoria will remain the host for the Illinois High School Association’s softball state finals for at least the next three years. The IHSA announced Wednesday that its Board of Directors secured a contract extension to keep the event at the Louisville Slugger Sports Complex through the 2028 state tournament.

The continuing advancement of artificial intelligence remains a constant throughout the various sectors of the sports industry. Being open to working with AI was one of the messages given to students Tuesday during Bradley University’s annual Charley Steiner Sports Symposium. “I don't know if I look at it as ‘the have and the have nots,’ as much as I look at it as the ‘willings and the unwillings,’” said Mike Taylor, co-founder of the sports technology company Agdiago.

Members of the Illinois Central College Board of Trustees say they feel blindsided by the recent decision to close the student housing facility on the East Peoria campus. During a special board meeting Thursday, trustees said the board was not involved in making the decision that was announced publicly last month. ICC indicated the closure of the 20-year-old WoodView Commons Apartments managed by a separate limited liability company was due to the expense of required upgrades and maintenance.

Greater Peoria Economic Development Council CEO Chris Setti suspects financial uncertainty may continue to linger as the Trump administration’s trade policies keep changing. Trump on Wednesday announced a 90-day pause on increasing tariffs for most countries, except China. Setti said it’s hard to forecast what the full effects of tariffs on the local economy might be. “We’ve all kind of learned that we’re in a chaotic moment,” said Setti.

Tariffs put in place by the Trump administration could mean less purchasing ability for the City of Peoria. City Manager Patrick Urich says the biggest concern for municipalities from the president’s fluctuating trade policy is if the broad tariffs on goods result in increased inflation.
