WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - A family in Wichita had their trailer stolen from in front of their home shortly after 1 a.m. on Sunday. “They just pulled in, hooked it up real fast and then drove off with it,” said Anna Shook, who owned the trailer. “We had a lock on it and all that. ” The Wichita Police Department reported a decrease in trailer thefts this year but said owners should be vigilant as these crimes are becoming more common in the area.

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - A family in Wichita is seeking the return of their trailer, which was stolen over the weekend along with all of their belongings inside. The incident was captured on a neighbor’s security camera. Just after 1 a.m. on Sunday, someone approached the Shook home, hooked up the trailer, and drove away. “We had a lock on it and additional locks on the doors in the back as well,” said Anna Shook.

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Time is running out to unlock expanded testing for people possibly affected by groundwater contamination in a northeast Wichita neighborhood. About 50 years ago, a chemical spill from a Union Pacific rail yard ultimately led to health concerns for people in the 29th and Grove area. The exposure led to a higher risk of cancer and a low birth rate. The soil near the 29th and Grove railyard contains a chemical called trichloroethene (TCE), which is used as a degreaser.

DERBY, Kan. (KWCH) - In the first two weeks of mandator water restrictions, the City of Derby is among Wichita-area communities reporting a significant water usage reduction. The City of Derby reports a 44% reduction in water usage already. Early this month, the City of Wichita announced that it was moving into Stage 2 of its drought response plan due to lowering levels of Cheney Lake, a main water source for the city.

McPherson, Kan. (KWCH) - Severe storms tore through parts of Kansas Wednesday night, slamming parts of central and south-central Kansas. McPherson and Sedgwick were among the communities hardest hit by storms that packed a punch with wind 70-80 mph wind gusts. In McPherson, the winds were strong enough to uproot trees, knocking down limbs and powerlines and even ripping roofs off of buildings.

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - As students returned to school on Wednesday, Wichita Public Schools introduced a special learning opportunity called Creative Minds. This pilot program aims to transform the traditional classroom experience. The Creative Minds Program offers 20 students the opportunity to learn alongside peers of different ages, from kindergarten to sixth grade. The district refers to it as a contemporary approach to the one-room schoolhouse.
