GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — It’s a busy weekend for Pitt County Schools. Over the course of Friday and Saturday six schools are celebrating their graduation. JH Rose finished up their ceremony Friday afternoon, where they had over 300 students dresses in light blue gowns graduating. This is not the only commencement ceremony for Friday, DH Conley will be walking across the stage at 6pm. One graduate from JH Rose High School said that he’s excited for what’s to come.

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — Walkers gathered bright and early Saturday morning, May 17, 2025, for the annual ALS Down East Walk. The event raises money to support the fight against ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the walk season, with additional events in the Triangle, Winston-Salem, Greensboro, Wilmington, and Charlotte. East Carolina University hosted the event on its campus.

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — Red Oak Community Fire Department hosted their big chicken barbecue plate sale Friday, May 16. The Fire Department raised money to help re-finish the bay floors in their building, which has become a safety hazard. The $10 BBQ plate included chicken, potatoes, green beans and a roll.

KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) — The Down East Bird Dawgs had their first-ever regular season baseball game at Grainger Stadium in Kinston Friday, May 9, 2025. The game starts at 7 p.m. and gates opened at 6 p.m. The stadium has come changes since the Down East Wood Ducks played their final game there in the fall of 2024. A new videoboard was installed beyond the outfield wall. Another new addition to the historic stadium is a patio section along the third-base line.

PITT COUNTY, N.C. (WNCT) — The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit started working on an Internet Crimes Against Children case on February 25. This led up to an April 17 arrest. James August Samuelson, 44 years old and from Farmville, was arrested on April 17 after multiple search warrants were executed. Detectives from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation helped identify Samuelson as the alleged perpetrator.
