Share There’s one name in the Phoenix art scene that everyone knows — and it’s not the most famous artist in town. It’s Lisa Sette, owner of the Lisa Sette Gallery. You know you’ve arrived as an artist when your work lands in there — it’s a rarefied group including luminaries and statement-makers like Mayme Kratz, Angela Ellsworth and Mark Klett. Her first gallery was in Tempe, and for many years she’s been in an Al Beadle-designed building in central Phoenix.

Share Arizona’s newest Sen. Ruben Gallego has a history as a progressive firebrand. But, his first moves as a sitting senator have the progressive left up in arms. He voted for and cosponsored the Laken Riley Act, which requires undocumented immigrants who are arrested for a theft or a violent crime to be held in jail until they go to trial. Immigrant activists have said it allows for the detention of people who haven’t been convicted of any crime.

By Lauren GilgerMost of the headlines about the U.S. and Mexico may be about the border and immigration these days, but there’s another fight going on between us and our neighbors to the south. And it’s about tortillas — or at least the corn that goes into them. Last year, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador banned the use of genetically modified corn in tortillas, which the Mexican people eat a whole lot of. He also phased out the use of the commonly used herbicide glyphosate.
