APACHE JUNCTION, AZ — On Wednesday, East Valley community members, law enforcement, and businesses all came together to support multiple fundraisers for the family of an officer who was shot and killed. Apache Junction police Officer Gabriel Facio was shot by a suspect on June 2; he ultimately passed away from his injuries on Sunday. In his honor, the Mesa FOP Lodge 9 Charity Foundation and Scottsdale FOP Lodge 35 hosted a public community barbeque fundraiser Wednesday afternoon.

Real estate data shows buyers might be in power in the Phoenix metro’s housing market. However, sellers and realtors say, costs are still keeping buyers away. May data from Phoenix realtors shows nearly 50% more homes are for sale compared to May last year and they’re sitting anywhere from 16 to 23% longer. “Buyers are staying away from the market. Interest rates are high concern for the economy, whatever, there's just not a lot of activity in the market,” REV Residential Broker Butch Leiber said.

Banner University Medical Center Phoenix has officially opened its new neurocritical unit, which aims to bring the top technology and specialists under one roof for those with critical, life-threatening neurological conditions. One of the first patients in the unit is Christopher Cathey, who has battled debilitating seizures since he was 12 due to Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. Now, at 32, his condition worsened severely, ultimately leading doctors to put him in a medically induced coma in February.

PHOENIX — A Phoenix couple is finding more termite troubles than just those uncovered a day after closing, despite prior home inspections. Hailey and Alex Aguirre’s story went viral as the couple shared their warning for buyers to get second opinions on home inspections. “We thought we did everything right,” Hailey Aguirre said. After her video gained millions of views online, viral Valley home inspector Cy Porter reached out. “I was like, I got to do something special for her,” Porter said.
