Chicago police are warning several neighborhoods to be on alert after as many as 17 armed robberies occurred over the course of three days. In one of the incidents, three University of Chicago students were held up near campus in broad daylight. According to a community alert from Chicago Police, the robberies follow a similar pattern: Several men wearing masks jump out of a car and demand victims' belongings at gunpoint. They then quickly flee the scene in vehicles, police said.

A rideshare driver was shot and critically injured during an attempted carjacking Wednesday in the city's Austin neighborhood, Chicago police said. The driver, a 51-year-old man, was dropping off a fare at approximately 10:10 p.m. in the 900 block of North LeClaire Avenue when three males approached him, authorities said. They men took the driver's cellphone and told him to get out of the vehicle, police said.

The Chicago Department of Public Health is trying to help people get vaccinated through one of its last city college clinics, with COVID cases on the rise in nearly half of the state's counties. Chicago-area residents are certainly noticing that cases of COVID-19 and R.S.V are popping up, and doctors say they're feeling the impacts in clinics and hospitals too. “It’s definitely spreading like wildfire all throughout,” said Dr. Juanita Mora, national spokesperson for the American Lung Association.

Chicago police are searching for those responsible for roughly a dozen shootings that wounded at least a dozen teenagers, with three having been killed this weekend alone. As of Sunday morning, an 18-year-old man and a 14-year-old boy were killed in separate shootings, according to police. A 17-year-old girl was also killed in another shooting on Saturday night, identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's office as Shauntice Wilburn.

As Highland Park High School students head back to class Wednesday for the 2023-24 school year, a new "weapons detection system" will be in place across the building at certain entrances, officials said. According to Superintendent Dr. Bruce Law, the board approved implementing a weapons detection system in District 113, which also includes Deerfield High School, last week.
