CHICAGO (WGN) — It’s being called Operation Restore Justice, the FBI’s effort to get accused sexual predators off the street. The large-scale endeavor targeted individuals accused of child sex offenses, many of whom are believed to have found their targets online. Arrests made include the states of California, Maryland, and Illinois. According to this federal complaint, one of the men arrested in Chicago, William Solis, is believed to have purchased more than 1,000 pornographic child images.

CHICAGO (WGN) — Chicago Public Libraries welcome millions of visitors every year. But some library workers fear there’s not enough being done to keep those visitors and staffers safe. “Every day is not an emergency at the library,” said Adrienne Seely, a Chicago librarian. “But we always have to be ready to potentially be one.” Chicago Police data, reviewed by WGN Investigates, shows there were 126 reported crimes at libraries citywide in 2021, including theft, sex offenses and battery.

Officials say inmates continue to sexually harass female workers, despite repeated attempts to stop and even punish the behavior. Take Claudia Lanuza. Four years ago, she became a Cook County Correctional Officer. “It’s something so amazing to have my family be so proud,” she said. “It’s a great career.” But not one without its challenges. “This is happening to me,” she said about the harassment. “I have no control over it.

CHICAGO — Gun buyback programs aim to take firearms off the streets by offering cash for guns, but one weapon has reportedly ended up back on the street, raising concerns. It’s estimated that the Chicago Police Department has taken thousands of guns off the street. There’s a system in place to log and destroy the guns that are turned in. A group of reporters have been able to match the missing gun to shell casings at three different Chicago shootings.
