SHREVEPORT, La. - Downtown Shreveport is bursting with color and creativity this weekend at ArtBreak 2025. The annual festival started in 1984 and showcases tens of thousands of student artwork from around the ArkLaTex like paintings, mosaics and sculptures. Over 2,500 art pieces from students from 100 schools plaster every surface of the Convention Center. Fifty different interactive exhibits teach kids how to sew, paint and create personal works of art.
Phone scams trick victims into turning themselves in for false warrants

SHREVEPORT, La. - The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office has received daily reports of phone scams targeting local residents since July. Scammers impersonate sheriff's deputies or parish officials demanding payment through gift cards or financial apps for outstanding warrants. Multiple victims attempted to turn themselves in Wednesday after falling for the scam. "The scammers will tell people after they have received payment to come down to 505 Travis street on the seventh floor to turn yourself in.
New medical lecture series launches at LSUHS

SHREVEPORT, La. — LSU Health Shreveport kicked off a new tradition Thursday with the inaugural Rasberry Lectureship, made possible by a record-setting $2.6 million donation from the family of longtime supporter James “Bubba” Rasberry. The event brings top biomedical researchers and clinicians to Shreveport and showcases the medical facility to visitors from across the country. In honor of the Rasberry family's contribution, the school renamed its 360-degree theater the Rasberry Auditorium.

SHREVEPORT, La. - In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Louisiana’s film industry rapidly relocated many productions from New Orleans to Shreveport, establishing northwest Louisiana as a film hub known as "Hollywood South."Producer Tripp Vinson recalled the relocation of The Guardian, a major production starring Kevin Costner and Ashton Kutcher. “We had to abandon New Orleans. The city was too damaged, so we moved to Shreveport,” said Vinson.

SPRING RIDGE, La. - Firefighters with Caddo Fire District Four are now better equipped to save lives and protect themselves thanks to new gear and a unique training opportunity. Two homes were donated to the department to be used as burning classrooms, and a grant from Firehouse Subs provided funding to equip every firefighter in district four with thermal imaging cameras (TIC's).
3 Caddo elementary schools to close by 2026

SHREVEPORT, La. - The Caddo Parish School Board has voted to close three elementary schools over the next two years in an effort to save money and adjust to declining student enrollment. Queensborough Elementary School will close at the end of the 2024-25 school year and the property will be put up for sale. The school's 222 students will transfer to J.S. Clark Elementary which will serve close to 800 students.

Third Future Schools to operate Linwood Public Charter School next school year

SHREVEPORT, La. - Management of Linwood Public Charter School in Shreveport will be transferred to Third Future Schools July 1. The Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) approved the transfer Wednesday. Third Future began operating its first school in Shreveport, Fair Park Middle School, during the 2024-2025 school year. Linwood will be Third Future's fourth school in Louisiana. Linwood has been rated as a "D" school under Louisiana's grading system.
