U.S. Highway 80 commute to be bumpy during construction

HAUGHTON, La. - If you travel along U.S. Highway 80 near Louisiana Downs, you may have noticed a few bumps in the road during your commute. The heavily traveled highway is currently under construction. The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development is in charge of the project. It's similar to what was done recently to Youree Drive. DOTD spokeswoman Erin Buchanan said the plan is to patch, mill, and overlay the highway.
SPD places officer on leave after social media posts

SHREVEPORT, La. - The Shreveport Police Department is taking action after it became aware of a video showing one of its officers fighting, as well as this same officer posting several TikToks in uniform with vulgar language. SPD Chief Wayne Smith has placed the officer on leave and an investigation will take place. "We really want our community to know that the police department does not want these types of images to represent what we are about," said SPD PIO Cpl. Chris Bordelon.

The last month has been a rush of people trying to make sure they are prepared. The best way to check if your ID is Real ID compliant is to look for a gold star in the upper right-hand corner. "Real ID is an effort from the federal government to make state-issued driver's licenses and ID cards more accurate, reliable and secure.
Term limits pass in Bossier City; other parishes could see the same in the future

BOSSIER CITY, La. -The citizens of Bossier City made their voices heard in Saturday's election. Voters passed both propositions for term limits. Members of the Bossier Term Limits Coalition worked for over a year to get retroactive term limits on the ballot in Bossier City. The coalition's version stated that once a council member or mayor serves three terms, they can't run again. Both propositions passed with over 80% voting yes. "I am so excited.

The battle over term limits in Bossier City has been going on for over a year. Saturday's election could be the end of a long road because it determines what kind of term limits will go in the Bossier City Charter.

SHREVEPORT, La. -The Louisiana Department of Health released its report cards for community water systems. In Shreveport-Bossier, the results were mixed. The Shreveport water system didn't do well in this report card; it received an F for the second year in a row. In 2024 the Shreveport water system had several problems, including manganese in the summer and algae in the winter.

SHREVEPORT, La. - Four times in less than 24 hours—that's how many times Shreveport fire crews responded to fires at the abandoned Oak Meadows Apartments. The Shreveport Fire Department is familiar with Oak Meadows because just this year crews have responded to nine fires at the complex along with several other abandoned apartments that have also gone up in flames. Four fires at one apartment complex in less than 24 hours could be a record.
Shreveport Police Department, 11 other agencies complete Operation Curveball

SHREVEPORT, La. - The Shreveport Police Department, along with 11 other local, state and federal agencies, worked together last week in a three-day operation to get guns, drugs and criminals off the street. The multi-agency operation was called Operation Curveball. Police executed 118 warrants and arrested nearly 200 people for felony and misdemeanor warrants. Lieutenant Steve McKenna, with the Shreveport Police Department, was the leader of the operation.

SHREVEPORT, La. -The 42nd annual Holocaust remembrance service was held Sunday afternoon at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Thursday was Yom HaShoah, which is Holocaust Remembrance Day. The Shreveport-Bossier community holds a service to recognize the lives lost. Guest speaker was Kathy Kacer, the child of Holocaust survivors. Kacer said about 100 Holocaust survivors are passing away each month and this generation will be the last to be able to speak and learn from the survivors.
I-20 is in phase 3 of construction

BOSSIER CITY, La. -The construction of Interstate 20 through Bossier City continues. It's been just over a year and a half since construction on the I-20 project began. According to DOTD, motorists will see more changes this week. The I-20 project is in phase 3, meaning drivers are closer than ever to being able to drive on a resurfaced interstate. "So I-20 is actually progressing quite well. We're in the final phase of construction. Traffic is currently traveling on newly constructed inside lanes.
