SALT LAKE CITY — The bell tower at Salt Lake City’s Cathedral of the Madeleine joined the rest of the world Monday in mourning after the news of Pope Francis’ death. Mass goers told KSL TV they were heartbroken to hear the news, saying Francis was a leader they loved and connected with. “I’m saddened, still waiting for the big tears to come,” said Lorena Needham, director of worship for the Diocese of Salt Lake City.

Even though they say they have active U.S. visas, they were notified they have just a week to leave the country. Two of the families who received the notice are from Venezuela, and the third family is from Haiti. All of them are here legally.

SALT LAKE CITY — Court documents revealed that a criminal trespassing case against Hurricane Fire Chief Joe Decker was dismissed after he published an apology letter and donated to a Kane County department for child victim services. Decker, 47, faced a formal charge filed in February after he allegedly entered a Kanab city building after hours and attempted to gain access to a computer.

SALT LAKE CITY — A stack of vehicles set to be recycled went up in flames at an industrial facility in Salt Lake City Friday morning. The two-alarm fire, which was reported at approximately 5:15 a.m. at Metro Group Inc’s scrap metal recycling yard at 3150 W. 900 South, sent flames and a large plume of smoke into the air. No one was hurt, Salt Lake City Fire Capt. Brandt Hancuff said, but it will likely take days to ensure the fire is fully extinguished.

SALT LAKE CITY — Dozens of international college students in Utah are facing shocking news after they were recently notified that their student visas are being revoked, according to multiple colleges and universities across the state. The University of Utah said it notified at least 17 students in an email on Friday that their student visas were being affected, citing federal directives. Some of those affected were also recent graduates.
