Michigan woman dies in Blount County collision

A Michigan woman has died following a two-car crash on Thursday, Aug. 22. Representatives of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said Janice Mehney, 67, of Dewitt, MI, died after the 2011 Ford Fusion she was driving was struck by a 2003 Ford F-250, driven by Lewis E. Soli, 50, of Hayden. Officials say the accident happened on U.S. Highway 31, near White Oak Trail, five miles west of Hayden. ALEA is investigating the cause of the crash, and no further information is available. here.

Three people, including teenager, shot in Center Point

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is investigating after three people, including a teenager, were found shot in Center Point Sunday evening. According to Public Information Officer Henry Irby, deputies responded to the shooting on the 2400 block of 5th Street Northwest. The victims were all found with gunshot wounds. All three were taken to UAB Hospital, but their conditions are unknown at this time. There is no word of whether any suspects have been taken into custody.

One man is dead after a car crash led to a church fire in Riverside Thursday morning.According to the Riverside Fire & Rescue, crews responded to the Riverside Baptist Church on Depot Street just before 1:30 a.m. for a reported structure fire.They believe the fire started after a car left the roadway and crashed into the church's basement. One man was found inside that car and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 17-year-old boy is dead after the Saint Clair County Sheriff's Office says he was involved in a "swimming accident."According to authorities, the teenager hit his head while swimming at a private residence in the Shoal Creek area of Ashville and was unresponsive by the time the county's patrol division arrived.First responders took him to St. Vincent's Hospital in St. Clair, where he was pronounced dead shortly after getting there.

Some strong pop-up storms in Tuscaloosa led to damage at the University of Alabama.The school says high winds caused a large tree to fall near Lloyd Hall sometime Sunday evening. The fallen tree was said to have blocked 6th Avenue as crews worked to remove it.The University also reported some roof damage to the Pride Court Apartments, an off-campus residential area.
