Middle Brow (one of our favorite pizza spots) now makes bagels under the alias of Beachwater Bagels. And despite looking like they were thrown into a volcano, the bagels are excellent. The tangy sourdough bagels’ alarmingly charred crust contrasts nicely with the spongy interior. They're only available on Saturday mornings and come as plain, cinnamon, or the everything-like seeds—the most flavorful of the trio.

Italian, overlooking the river, in the fancy St. Regis hotel, big-name chef—this Lakeshore East spot has “see and be seen” in its DNA. Couples with multiple summer homes linger over a casual $400 bottle of wine, while a rock band wearing cut-off jean vests and graphic tees eat rigatoni in a giant booth. And with the combined magic of dim lighting and remembering to pick up your dry cleaning, you will also feel like a pasta-twirling VIP.

Chicago has seen its share of new ritzy steakhouses recently, but nothing as literally big as The Alston. This River North spot from the chef at Esmé will have 350 seats with a third-floor view overlooking State Street, an outdoor terrace with DJ sets, and a members-only club. Expect steakhouse classics alongside a $400 cheesecake with caviar. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists.
