    Linfield softball established a school record for home runs in a season and remained in the mix for a national title after beating Redlands (Calif.) 9-1 Saturday at the NCAA Division III championship. The Wildcats (45-6) launched four home runs in an elimination game at Bloomington, Ill. Linfield has hit 104 home runs this season, topping the previous record of 103, set by the school’s 2011 NCAA championship team. Linfield advances to play Trine (Ind.) at 11:30 a.m. Sunday.

    Linfield fell into the elimination bracket Friday after Virginia Wesleyan handed the Wildcats a 8-4 loss in the NCAA Division III softball championship tournament at Bloomington, Ill. Linfield, which opened the tournament Thursday with an 11-3 win over Saint Mary’s (Minn.), must now win three consecutive games to earn a berth in the best-of-three championship series. It is the first loss this postseason for Linfield, which swept its regional and super regional tournaments.

    Southern Oregon inched closer to NAIA history Wednesday when the Raiders beat Oklahoma City 8-0 in the softball World Series in Columbus, Ga.Southern Oregon (54-9) plays Oklahoma City at 7 a.m. Thursday for the NAIA championship. If the Raiders win, they’ll become the first team in tournament history to lose their first game and win the title. SOU, which lost its opener to Marian (Ind.) has won six consecutive games to reach Thursday’s final.

Following a regional tournament where the Ducks won after having their backs repeatedly stuck to the wall, Oregon ran Liberty out of Jane Sanders Stadium on Saturday to win the Eugene Super Regional.
