Multiple people were taken away from a Honesdale restaurant by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement on May 29, according to Honesdale Mayor Derek Williams. He was alerted to the agency's presence at the courthouse, where he saw agents parked out front. "About a half dozen of them went inside the courthouse, then came back out. They got in vehicles, moved around to the back of the courthouse in their vehicles. We followed them around there and witnessed them put on their gear," Williams said.

The Honesdale High School and Wallenpaupack Area High School bands played in this year's National Memorial Day Parade. Meanwhile, Western Wayne High School's Wildcat band filled in at the Memorial Day parade in Honesdale. The two bands met up for dinner and had time for sightseeing in the nation's capital.

Rite Aid is shutting down stores across the country, including in Wayne County, following a second bankruptcy filing in May. The Rite Aid outside Honesdale, opposite the Route 6 Plaza in Texas Township, is closing Wednesday, June 4, store manager Chris Depew said. Depew stated that Weis Markets bought out the pharmacy business, which means Rite Aid customers can have their prescriptions filled at Weis across the road at the Route 6 Plaza. Customers can also make other arrangements, he said.

Honesdale Borough Council reviewed designs for chainsaw carvings on tree stumps in Central Park. Two winning designs, chosen by community vote, depict local animals and water elements. Carving is planned for July, pending final council approval, and will include a live public demonstration. Donations are being accepted to cover the $3,000 project cost.

Jessica Ellis, a Honesdale-based attorney, won the Republican and Democratic nominations for magisterial district judge in central Wayne County, according to preliminary results in the May 20 primary. The Wayne County Bureau of Elections reported that Ellis received 526 Democratic votes and 1,077 Republican votes, compared to her challenger, Wayne Thomas, who received 198 Democratic and 561 Republican votes.
