Staffing concerns continue to plague the Clarion County Jail as rapid turnover rates create perpetual stress for many workers. At Friday’s jail inspection board meeting, a personnel report revealed there were four new correctional officers (COs) hired at the jail and one promotion last month, but that the staff lost four employees including Assistant Warden Dianne Smith in the same span of days.

CLARION -- The Clarion County Courthouse renovation project took an unusual turn during this month’s Clarion County Commissioner’s meeting, a turn that included a familiar name, Phil Deets. Following the announcement that Deets, L.L.C., the successor contractor for the HVAC portion of the renovation, filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, the county needed to proceed with the renovation project.

The Clarion DemocratMay 2, 1929William Sansom, Editor- The Clarion County Commissioners announced this week that Clarion County would receive in the neighborhood of $1,000,000 from the state this year in the construction of good roads. This will give Clarion about 30 miles of improved roads to be constructed this year. A portion of them will be of concrete and the balance water bound macadam. This is a magnificent gift to the county as this is at least one-tenth of our valuation.

Monday evening the Cranberry Area School Board of Directors took a look into their immediate financial future, and that future looks bleak. Board President Tom Neeley said this deficit is "not the worst" he has seen, but it is the second largest. Cranberry Superintendent Bill Vonada said the district faces a deficit $1.69 million this year, an increase from a half-million deficit last year. He said that a tax hike was among the options they were looking at to make up the difference.

FRILLS CORNERS -- The North Clarion Robotics teams are going places, Texas to be exact. According to the school’s web page, at the March 3 Western State Competition held at PennWest Clarion University, North Clarion’s team composed of Julian Bellotti, Logan Bish, Luke Dinger, Gabriel Fair, Tyler Swaim, and Kevin Young were crowned senior high tournament champions and also earned the Amaze Award.

Twin sisters Emily Pfaff, left, and Natalie Pfaff combined their talents to apply face paint to Esme Renninger, 6, of Shippenville at the Annual Walk for Autism on Sunday. The twins are juniors at the Keystone High School. Ten-year-old Eli Messina and his 6-year-old sister Hannah got to meet “Twix,” a pony that visited the petting zoo at the Annual Walk for Autism at the Keystone High School Sunday. All-American 4-H club provided the petting zoo.
