YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — Amateur boxing returns to the Valley next weekend with an event called “Easter Bash” presented by the South Side Boxing Club. Watch the video above to hear more about the event from South Side Boxing’s Jack Loew. The boxing card, which will take place on Saturday, April 19 at the Metroplex Expo Center, will feature 12 amateur bouts that include Youngstown native Anthony Scandy and Cardinal Mooney freshman Chris Vass.

BELOIT, Ohio (WKBN) – Veteran girls basketball coach Walt DeShields has been informed that he will not return as the head coach at West Branch High School. According to a source, Coach DeShields was told the district is “moving in a different direction.”During his 20 years leading the Warriors’ program, DeShields led West Branch to 379 victories, as well as eight league titles, 17 sectional championships, seven district titles, and a pair of regional titles.

SALINEVILLE, Ohio (WKBN) – Cameren Grodhaus is chasing a dream, working out every day at his high school gym, hoping for an opportunity to play in the NFL. “I would be grateful for sure, no matter where I went,” says Grodhaus. “If I got to wear that NFL jersey, had my name on the back, it would be a blessing for sure.”Grodhaus is coming of his last season as a collegiate athlete. He spent his first four seasons at Lake Erie College where he was an All-Conference selection.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Two former members of the YSU football team are headed to the NFL. Penguins quarterback Montgomery VanGorder and Cole Peterson, YSU’s former director of football operations, have been hired by the Philadelphia Eagles. Both additions to the Eagles’ coaching staff were announced on Friday. VanGorder has been hired as an Offensive Quality Control Coach.
