    WORTHINGTON — The Worthington City Council awarded a contract for concrete repairs on Service Drive and Service Road improvements to Ideal Construction Inc. on a 3-1 vote Monday evening. Ideal Construction submitted a bid of $1,936,468.75 for the project. The work will focus on the road in front of Heartland Tire, just north of Oxford Street and connected to Minnesota 60. The project will be backed by Local Road Improvement Program state funds.

    IONA — Though the doors of St. Columba Catholic Church are closed, it is still giving back to communities in the area. Its 15 Stations of the Cross — which depict the trial and crucifixion of Jesus Christ — have been repaired and found a new home at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Wilmont, where they have resided since Palm Sunday. Deb Thraen, who made the repairs to the stations and attended St. Columba for 35 years, said the project was brought to her by a friend.

    WORTHINGTON — The Worthington Planning Commission on Tuesday evening approved a change of zone request on behalf of Fertilizer Dealer Supply, Inc. for a parcel of land on which the company plans to build a 23,000-square-foot building. The site is located east of Shine Brothers, on a parcel that extends to U.S. 59/Minnesota 60 along the south side of East Gateway Drive.

    WORTHINGTON — Late last week, We Care Day Care announced it would be permanently closing its doors after more than 50 years of serving the Worthington community. Originally intending to close last September, the center — located in First Lutheran Church — was able to push through the school year and will close May 30. “It is with great sadness in our hearts that We Care Day Care & Preschool will be closing our doors permanently on May 30, 2025.

    WORTHINGTON — With the city of Worthington and Worthington ISD 518 both offering $5 million toward the construction of a new ice arena, members of the Worthington Hockey Association are brainstorming fundraising ideas to make their dream a reality. The group needs to raise more than $8 million for the project. If it does so by the end of this year, the city could make another $2 million available through future half cent sales tax revenue.
