A storm fueled by an atmospheric river will bring several hours of rain, strong winds and the potential for flooding Thursday to Los Angeles County and other parts of Southern California. The storm caused significant flooding overnight as it moved into Ventura County. A flood watch was issued through late Thursday in Los Angeles County and Friday evening in Orange County as the slow-moving system delivers hours of rainfall to the region.

The California coast, considered by so many to be a treasure, is now struggling with the threat of pollution. In Los Angeles County, an innovative device is collecting trash to stop waste from reaching the ocean. This “trash interceptor,” stationed in Venice Beach, is one of only 11 in the world – and the only one in North America. Just this year, piles and piles of trash have washed up on Southern California beaches after recent storms.

A Flash Flood Warning is in effect until 11PM tonight for the Franklin Burn Scar and the western portion of the Palisades Burn Scar. Heavy rain will cause flash flooding of creeks and streams. Debris flows are possible, too. #NBCLA #CAwx https://t.co/j4GU1CImB0

It's been a LONG time since we've seen rain like this is Southern California! Scattered showers and some heavier downpours tonight. Although the rain is very much welcomed, it also brings concerns of runoff and potential debris flows. Stay safe and prepared out there! #NBCLA https://t.co/3t4FcHPyFr
