On the morning of Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2024, the parent of a White County Middle School student brought their child to the White County Sheriff’s Office. According to Sheriff Steve Page, the student informed him that a cohort had shown him something concerning the day before while at school that caused him to fear for the safety of the entire school. Upon receiving the news, WCSO and White County Schools worked together to place the middle school on lockdown.

(August 20, 2024) - Tennessee Department of Finance and Administration Commissioner Jim Bryson has announced that revenues for July were $1.7 billion, which is $51.2 million more than July of last year. The total growth rate for the month was 3.10 percent. “July total tax revenues grew more than expected in the final month of the fiscal year,” Bryson said.

The Buda Community Club will hold a Craft and Vendor Market from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30 in downtown Buda. Several vendors have already reserved their spot for the event that will feature special guests Cows Coffee and the popular Hocus Pocus Hags. Interested vendors can reserve a 10x10 foot space for $10 by emailing [email protected]. Spot will be guaranteed with payment and registration form. During the event, the Buda Fire Department will also be selling lunch.

All school levels at District 202 in Plainfield have new assistant principals. YORKVILLE – Work is proceeding rapidly to expand Kendall County’s downtown Yorkville office campus. The foundation is taking shape for the new Kendall County Clerk and Recorder’s office building, even as construction workers excavate around the site to reconfigure the parking areas, sidewalks and driveways serving the property. Construction on the $10 million project started immediately after members of the Kendall County Board held a ground-breaking ceremony on July 18.

As a kid, telling Mom I was bored was a tricky business. “There’s nothing to do,” I would gripe. To which she would respond, “I can give you something to do,” and name a chore. Those tasks kept me busy, but they didn’t solve the boredom. If there’s a way to make folding towels and dusting lamps enjoyable, I never mastered it. I did, however, learn to go outside when I felt aimless. The backyard was beyond the reach of chore assignments, so I would loiter there instead of inside the house.

Penn’s Colony, an annual fair in Saxonburg celebrating the French & Indian eras that features artisanal craftsmen’s booths and historical reenactments, has been canceled. The festival was to have taken place in September and, according to pennscolony.com and social media, the festival will return in 2024. A reason for cancellation was not given. Penn’s Colony, which takes place about 33 miles northeast of Pittsburgh, typically hosts nearly 200 vendors selling contemporary and traditional wares.
