The Streator Chamber will once again be sponsoring its Holiday Lighting and Decorating Contest. The contest will run from Friday, Nov. 24, to Friday, Dec. 8, with the winner being chosen in the second week of December. Winners will be awarded for Most Creative, Most Animated, Most Religious, Best Storefront and Best Overall. There is no cost to enter but you must reside or have a business in the Streator ZIP code area. Winners receive cash prize and a yard sign. Judging will take place Tuesday, Dec.

A woman was found dead Monday morning in her vehicle at Marilla Park in Streator. An officer discovered the 41-year-old woman seated in her running vehicle while patrolling the park. Police believe her death was an overdose. Drug paraphernalia was found in the vehicle, police said. An autopsy will be conducted by the La Salle County Coroner’s Office. The woman had two pets – a dog and two cats – that were taken by the Streator Animal Control officer.

With the boys basketball season underway with tournaments this week, here are five storylines to keep an eye on during the 2023-24 season in the NewsTribune area. Alumnus John Senica has taken over the boys basketball program at La Salle-Peru. Senica played for the Cavaliers, served as an assistant coach under Jim Cherveny and has coached a bulk of the roster, including his son Josh. John Senica said he’s bringing a more aggressive approach to the Cavaliers on both ends of the floor.

OTTAWA — The Ottawa and Streator boys basketball teams opened their respective seasons on Monday with wins at the Dean Riley Shootin’ the Rock Thanksgiving Tournament at Kingman Gymnasium. The Pirates defeated Princeton 59-31, while the Bulldogs topped Plano 62-43. Pontiac opened the night’s action by rolling to a 94-25 triumph over Marengo.
