    Because of a change in state law, residents of the Iowa Quad-Cities who want to set off consumer-grade fireworks will have new hours to do so on the Fourth of July weekend. The new changes mean cities in Iowa must allow consumer fireworks to be set off on these dates and times:9 a.m. to 10 p.m. July 3 (unless July 3 falls on a Saturday or Sunday, in which case fireworks may be used until 11 p.m.)9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on July 49 a.m. on Dec. 31 to 12:30 a.m. on Jan. 1.

    Davenport City Council unanimously approved a potential loan for the developers turning the historic Annie Wittenmyer campus into housing. The $724,000 loan could replace a Housing and Urban Development HOME loan of the same amount, which the developers may lose because of delays in a federal environmental review and encroaching deadlines from the state to start the project in order to receive low-income tax credits.

    Sweltering temperatures that lingered into the 90s over the weekend and early this week proved too much for one portion of a Bettendorf trail. A recreational trail in the 1200 block of Spruce Hills Drive in Bettendorf buckled after a weekend of extreme heat. Bettendorf closed off the portion of the sidewalk with caution tape and the Bettendorf Police Department cautioned trail users in a post on its Facebook page to be careful when using the area until public works can make repairs.

    Davenport firefighters responded to a home fire on Perry Street Monday. One cat was found dead, but the resident of the two-story home was not home at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported, according to a Davenport Fire Department news release. The department responded at about 8:40 p.m. Monday night to the 1200 block of Perry Street for reports of a structure fire.
