These travelling vendors must now obtain a licence under the city’s newly updated and consolidated Mobile Licensing Bylaw. Licensing carries a $116 fee and must be renewed annually.

    Brampton KiteFest will soar over Greenbriar Park South June 7 and 8. The two-day festival, which takes place 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, is expected to draw thousands of people, including both expert and novice kite flyers. Event producer Rick Davis said attendees will enjoy “watching the kites paint the sky,” noting there’ll be “big, beautiful expert kites,” some 100 feet long. Admission to the event is free and kites and kite kits will be available for purchase on site.

    Former Brampton chief administrative officer (CAO) David Barrick has been paid more than $1 million by Brampton taxpayers despite his departure from the city in February 2021. According to Ontario’s annual Sunshine List, which lists all public sector employees earning $100,000 per year or more, Barrick has been paid $1,075,568.61 in salary and $72,924.70 in taxable benefits since his departure more than four years ago.

    Brampton’s mayor and some city councillors are defending council’s decision to massively increase minor variance application fees, and said the move is partially aimed at punishing residential landlords who don’t follow the city’s bylaws. Based on a staff report and recommendations in December 2024 citing application processing cost recovery as the main reason, council approved increases to its previous application fee structure.
