A proposed plan to create a new Niagara-on-the-Lake Fire and Emergency Services headquarters at Station 3 in Virgil has raised alarm bells with town councillors concerned about the impact it could have on the municipality’s administrative staff. Niagara-on-the-Lake’s heritage committee approved a permit for the town’s museum to replace its roof with fibreglass shingles rather than asphalt shingles, but only if the new shingles are “consistent” with the building’s previous restoration work. The Niagara-on-the-Lake Museum, which was designated in 1974, applied for a heritage permit to replace the roof on the school portion of the building and to conduct repairs on the mahogany moulding at the base of the bell tower.
