Game Informer
Game Informer (GI) is a monthly magazine from the United States dedicated to video games. It includes articles, news, strategies, and reviews related to video games and their consoles. As of December 2014, the magazine boasts a circulation of over 6.7 million copies each month, making it the fourth-largest magazine in the country by circulation. Game Informer was launched in August 1991 when FuncoLand introduced a six-page publication. As a pioneer of the first-person shooter genre, Doom laid the foundation for its contemporaries but has also never rested on its laurels. Doom 3 steered the franchise toward survival horror. The 2016 reboot dared to revisit and refine the old-school formula in an era of Call of Duty-likes. Doom Eternal, for better or worse, implemented parkour-esque platforming. Doom: The Dark Ages offers perhaps the biggest and most impressive shake-up of the series’ tried and true formula.

Doom: The Dark Ages doesn’t launch until May 15, but the review embargo lifted today. I’ve had a busy week writing Death Stranding 2 previews and spent a few days in Montreal this week visiting Rogue Factor to check out Hell is Us (keep an eye out for our impending preview), so I’m still shield-bashing my way through hordes of demons. Although I still have a good way to go in Doom: The Dark Ages, I can confidently say, as of now, this medieval shake-up is one hell of a good time.
