The warning comes as there has been an influx of fires caused by lithium batteries, with 10 proving fatal in the UK in the last four years. Those purchasing an e bike or scooter should ensure the vehicle has UKCA or CE markers, meaning it is in-line with product safety regulations.

    The nominations have been confirmed for a number of positions ahead of Donegal GAA’s Convention next month in Pettigo. Darren Collins, Mark Kelly and Sinead Breen will battle for the secretary’s role taking the place of the outgoing Declan Martin while Collins and Ed Byrne will also challenge Mary Kelly for the assistant secretary’s position. Sitting PRO Sinead Breen and Packie McDyer have been nominated for the public relations Officer job.

    Met Eireann’s issued a weather advisory for colder weather next week. It says there will be significantly colder conditions from Monday, which will last through much of the week. Frost and ice are likely, while there is the potential for sleet, snow and hail for some. Showers will be most widespread in the north, and parts of the west. The advisory has been issued due to the unusually mild start to November.

    Around 850 are diagnosed with cancer in Donegal every year. While last year, 420 in the county died from the illness. The Irish Cancer Society are calling on the next government to fully fund the National Cancer Strategy. It’s been found that cancer care will be a key issue for voters in the upcoming election, as 2 in 5 people in in Connacht and Ulster put off going to the GP or hospital because of financial barriers.

    Ireland will be the first European country to raise the age to legally buy tobacco products to 21. It will take effect from 2028, after it was signed into law by the President. Anyone caught selling cigarettes to under 21 year-olds could face a one thousand euro fine, or six months in prison.
