SNELLVILLE, GA (June 1, 2025) The City of Snellville Police Department responded to two separate shooting incidents at Briscoe Park in Snellville over the weekend. The first involved the shooting of several juvenile victims on Saturday, May 31, and the second happened on Sunday afternoon June 1. SPD report that Sunday’s shooting appears to be domestic related with one male victim and a male suspect who fled the scene.

J.L. Michael (Mike) McGarity, 81, of Monroe passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2025. Mike was born on March 4, 1944 to the late Lescar Caldwell McGarity and the late Dorothy Janette (Brown) McGarity. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia, where he was an active member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, and a huge Georgia Football fan. After graduating he returned home to the family business where he eventually became owner and President of the second oldest Ford Dealership in Georgia.

DEMOREST, GA (05/13/2025)– On Friday, May 9, in two ceremonies, Piedmont conferred undergraduate degrees to more than 205 students, including 148 first-generation students, and 164 graduate students, including master’s, EdS, and doctorate degrees. The ceremonies were held at the Johnny Mize Athletic Center on the Demorest campus. The graduates included:Destiny Brown of Social Circle, GA, who earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
