A new transportation company is setting up shop in Bracebridge, and according to its owner, the early response is welcoming. Scott Taylor is the co-owner/operator of the Driveseat franchise, which will officially open its doors on May 1. He said he and his wife/partner Caroline have already received a number of bookings ahead of the opening date. “I have a number of bookings for June and July that are coming before I’ve even launched,” he said.

Christine and Larry Jacobs are what you would call very serious voters. The couple have lived in the Bracebridge area on and off for 32 years until they moved here permanently from their Oakville home 14 years ago. They were upset they were not able to cast ballots in the last provincial election while vacationing in Florida for three months. “I actually called and tried to figure out how to vote from Florida,” Christine said, while cradling her Tim Hortons drink.

There could be an expansion of a well-respected program throughout south Muskoka in the coming years. Donna Kearney, the executive director of Hospice Muskoka, was before Gravenhurst council at its committee of the whole meeting on April 15 to discuss the program’s anticipated growth in the coming years. She had made previous presentation to the District of Muskoka and Town of Bracebridge and was scheduled to meet with Muskoka Lakes council on April 16.

Gravenhurst-area groups are getting funding courtesy of one man’s willingness to help his neighbours. The Town of Gravenhurst announced on April 14 the 2025 Terence Haight grant recipients. This year, the municipality awarded $30,000 to nine organizations. “On behalf of council and staff, I want to congratulate all our recipients and thank them for the good work they do in our community,” said Mayor Heidi Lorenz.
