Tyburski, who has been a Belle Vernon assistant coach, has been hired as Belle vernon’s new head coach. He succeeds Joe Salvino, who retired after this past season, which saw Belle Vernon win a WPIAL Class 4A championship.

Chartiers-Houston’s softball team will make another visit to the WPIAL finals, a feat secured with a 7-1 victory over Riverside on Friday in the Class 2A semifinals at Montour High School. Last year, the Bucs made it to the Class 1A finals. This year will see Chartiers-Houston play for the Class 2A title. “I think 2A is always a grind,” said Chartiers-Houston head coach Tricia Alderson.

The Eagles tore up Jefferson-Morgan Tuesday afternoon, 11-1, in the quarterfinals at Peters Township’s Joe Maize Field. In the day’s nightcap, South Park eliminated Waynesburg 11-1 in a Class 3A quarterfinal.
