PLOS ONE
PLOS ONE is a collaborative journal dedicated to promoting science for the good of society, both now and in the future. Our mission is to speed up scientific progress and showcase its importance. We believe that every quality research study deserves to be published, easily found, shared widely, and accessible to everyone without charge. The studies we publish cover a wide range of fields, often blending different disciplines. PLOS ONE accepts submissions in more than two hundred areas, including science, engineering, medicine, and related social sciences and humanities. We assess the manuscripts we receive based on their methodological soundness and adherence to ethical standards, without regard to how novel the research may be.

DiscussionThe results of this study have demonstrated a consistent, significant, and ongoing increase in the number of diagnoses recorded for inpatients at a specialist children’s hospital over recent decades. On average, patients are associated with around three times the number of unique conditions/diagnoses per admission than at the beginning of the study.
